Bishop David Malloy (kneeling, left) was among six people from the Diocese of Rockford to be invested in the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem at a Mass on Oct. 23 at St. Isaac Jogues Church in Hinsdale.

The other new members from the Rockford Diocese are: Robert Anthony and Ann Gabrielle Hyler, St. John Neumann Parish, St. Charles; Joyce Marie Romke of St. Thomas More Parish, Elgin; Rolando Angel and Jacquelyn Mary Orama of Holy Cross Parish, Batavia.

They join a number of other men, women and priests from the Rockford Diocese who are members of the order. The members may be refered to as sir or lady.

Cardinal Edwin O’Brien serves as the Grand Master of the Order, which was instituted in ancient times to defend and to honor the Sepulchre of the Divine Redeemer in Jerusalem.

Members commit themselves to work for the welfare of the faithful in the Holy Land and promise to live “an upright Christian life in accordance with the commandments of God and the precepts of the Church, in absolute fealty to the Supreme Pontiff, as true soldiers of Christ,” according to the investiture ceremony program booklet.
