September 7, 2017

AURORA—For two weekends each summer, Marmion Academy and Rosary High School students and parent volunteers, here, work at area Jewel-Osco stores to collect school supplies and cash from customers. Then they sort and deliver them to more than 75 in-need schools and organizations throughout the Fox Valley.

An estimated 30,000 supplies and close to $15,000 was collected the last two weekends this July.

“Crayons for Kids allows the Marmion Academy and Rosary High School communities the incredible opportunity to live out the values that our faith teaches us, most especially that of selfless service to others,” said Mark Malkowski, director of Campus Ministry at Marmion. “I cannot thank all of our student, parent, and staff volunteers enough for their willingness to be involved and give back in this way.”

Marmion Academy senior, Jack Twitty of Geneva, is a student coordinator of this event. “Crayons for Kids has played a pivotal role not only in helping local schools but (also in) bringing the students of Marmion and Rosary closer with each other and with God,” he said.

“Being a part of something bigger than myself like Crayons for Kids has helped me grow as a Christian disciple and leader. I'm so humbled to be a part of such an amazing organization,” he added.
