Deacon Alvin Swearingen, 80, Dies

MORRISON—Deacon Alvin “Alvie” Swearingen, 80, of Chadwick, died Monday, Feb. 5, 2018, at Liberty Village Manor Court in Freeport.
Deacon Swearingen was born June 1, 1937, in Kewanee, to Russell D. and Frances (Jacobs) Swearingen.
He was educated in the Kewanee grade schools and was a 1955 graduate of Kewanee High School.
He married Betty Spiegel on Feb. 11, 1956, in Kewanee. She died Jan. 12, 1988. He later married Jane Feldman-Miller on Nov. 25, 1989, in Morrison.
Deacon Swearingen was a hog buyer for 43 years in the Chadwick area. After retirement, he worked for Sewer Equipment Company in Chadwick.
Deacon Swearingen was a member of St. Mary Parish in Morrison. He was ordained as a permanent deacon of the Rockford Diocese on Oct. 20, 2001. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Vincent de Paul Society, and the Loyal Order of the Moose.
Survivors include his wife, Jane; three daughters, Cheryl (David) Schlagheck of Spring Valley; Karan (Joel) Schneider of Deerfield; and Debby (Steve) Clydesdale of Eldridge, Iowa; five sons, Alvin (Jean) Swearingen, Jr. of Hickory Hills; Alan (Jill) Swearingen of Columbia, Mo.; Charles (Kellie) Swearingen of Pewaukee, Wis.; Kevin (Debbie) Miller and Mike Miller both of Chadwick; 19 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Bonnie (John) Engel of Bettendorf, Iowa; three brothers, Wayne (Mary) Swearingen of Kewanee; Donnie (Joyce) Swearingen of Andover; and Kenny (Joanne) Swearingen of Honolulu, Hawii.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Betty; two daughters, Katherine Swearingen and Dr. Cynthia Radosevich; one grandson, Ben Schlagheck; one son, Keith Miller; and one brother, Russell D. Swearingen, Jr.
Visitation was Feb. 11, at the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home Morrison Chapel. The funeral Mass was Feb. 12, 2018, at St. Mary in Morrison. Burial followed at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Kewanee.
