Father Bartolomeo Dies in New York

SLATE HILL, N.Y.—Father Thomas Bartolomeo died in his home in Slate Hill, NY., Sept. 18, 2018. 
Father Bartolomeo was born Feb. 23, 1937, to Nicholas and Mary Laughlin Bartolomeo in Baldwin, NY.
 
He was ordained for the Diocese of Rockford on May 20, 2006, by Bishop Thomas G. Doran at the Cathedral of St. Peter in Rockford. 
 
He attended St. Joseph Jr. College and Seminary, Holy Trinity, Ala.; St. John University, Jamaica, NY; Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kan. He also attended Holy Trinity Mission Seminary, Winchester, Va., and Holy Apostles Seminary, Cromwell, Conn. 
 
Father Bartolomeo’s first assignment was as parochial vicar at St. Margaret Mary Parish, Algonquin, then as parochial vicar at St. James Parish, Rockford. 
 
He went to assist in the Diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau in Missouri before returning to Rockford where he assisted at St. James Parish, Belvidere. 
 
Father Bartolomeo returned to his home in Slate Hill and retired from active ministry in November 2012. 
 
Visitation was at Beney Funeral Home, 79 Berry Hill Road, Syosset, NY, on Friday, Sept. 21, 2018. The funeral Mass was at St. Dominic Chapel, 93 Anstice Street, Oyster Bay, NY, on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018. Burial was at St. Charles Cemetery, Long Island.  
 
Bishop David Malloy will celebrate a memorial Mass for Father Bartolomeo at St. James Church, Belvidere, at 11 a.m. on Oct. 3, 2018.
