Holy Cross to host concert May 19

BATAVIA—The Sisters of Mary Morning Star are presenting a Concert of Sacred Chant at Holy Cross Parish, 2300 Main St., here at 4 p.m. May 19.
The concert will feature sisters from both their American Novitiate in Ghent, Minn., and their priory in Madison, Wis. Proceeds from the concert will benefit a fund to buy their Motherhouse in Bergara, Spain.
The convent of their Motherhouse is from the Middle Ages and has had an unbroken presence of contemplative life for over 500 years.
The sisters moved into the convent about six years ago, just as the Poor Clare nuns who had been there for hundreds of years were aging and not receiving enough vocations to keep the convent open.
Music will range in style and age from pieces from a solemn alleluia sung in Rome during the 6th century to modern sacred hymns in English, inspired by Gregorian chant.
