Deacon Gregory Stevens Dies Oct. 4 in Elgin

SOUTH ELGIN—Deacon Gregory P. Stevens, 75, died Friday, Oct. 4, 2019, in his home here. 
 
He was born June 7, 1944, in Chicago the son of Henry and Dorothea Golchert Stevens. 
 
He was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Elgin where he served as a deacon. 
 
Deacon Stevens was ordained for the Archdiocese of Chicago, April 1, 1994. He served two parishes, St. Cyprian in River Grove and St. Peter Damian in Bartlett. 
 
Deacon Stevens came to the Rockford Diocese in February 2002, serving at St. Thomas More Parish in Elgin until his death. 
 
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. 
 
Surviving are his wife Linda; four children, Connie (John) Wicker, Jennifer (Mel Senior) Stevens, Traci (Ed) Stark and Kimberly Stevens; eight grandchildren, Cassandra, Crystal, Breanne, Alec, Johnnie, Samantha, Brittnee and William; two great-grandchildren, Amelia and Conrad; and a sister, Dolly Luciano. 
 
He was preceded in death by his parents. 
 
Funeral Mass was Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2019 at St. Thomas More Parish, Elgin. Visitation was Oct. 9 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of funeral Mass.
 
Burial was private at South Elgin Cemetery.
