DIOCESE—The first of the three 2020 combined collections — the National Appeal — will be held at diocesan parishes the weekend of Jan. 18-19.
The National Appeal collects donations to benefit the:
n Retirement Fund for Religious, which helps over 30,000 elderly Catholic sisters, religious order brothers and priests whose communities struggle to provide for their needs ($160,078 distributed last year) —;
n Catholic Campaign for Human Development, which works to break the cycle of poverty across the U.S., with 25% remaining in the Rockford Diocese ($22,100 distributed from our diocese in 2019) —;
n Catholic University of America, which provides more than 6,000 students with studies grounded in the Catholic intellectual tradition ($7,328 given last year) —;
n Catholic Communication Campaign, in support of a variety of media efforts within this diocese and beyond to share the Good News of Jesus and His Church ($122,004 provided in 2019) —
Additionally, assistance through this collection is provided to needy diocesan elementary schools ($170,182 distributed last year) and to diocesan priests’ pensions ($136,080 given last year).
“This National Appeal allows you to donate to one or more separate collections at one time,” notes Bishop of Rockford David Malloy. “I ask you to prayerfully consider contributing to the work of the Catholic Church through these efforts to share the faith here in the United States and in our Diocese.”
