Deacon Statter of Crystal Lake Dies, Funeral to be Feb. 1

CRYSTAL LAKE—Deacon Ralph W. Statter, 94, died Jan. 25, 2020.
Deacon Statter graduated from St. John’s Military Academy, Delafield, Wis. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps, 6th Marine Division/4th Regiment in Guam; Okinawa, Japan; and Tsing Tao, China. He received the Purple Heart.
He married Mary DeWane Sept. 10, 1960, at St. Mary Church, Woodstock. He was the co-owner of Statter Wallpaper Mills, Crystal Lake.
He served his community and the parishioners as a deacon at St. Thomas the Apostle Parish in Crystal Lake for many years. He was ordained by Bishop Arthur J. O’Neill in the diocese’s first diaconate class in 1975.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; his children: Ralph K., Patrick D., Christopher (Lana), Brian T., and Mark D. (Beth) Statter; his grandchildren: Gabrielle, Eric, Kelley, Karly, and Emma.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Christopher and Edith; his sister, Irene Saville and his brother, Christopher K. Statter.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m., Jan. 31, at Querhammer and Flagg Funeral Home in Crystal Lake, and from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass on Feb. 1 at St. Thomas the Apostle Parish. Funeral Mass will begin at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Woodstock.
