Rockford NBC Affiliate to Broadcast Bishop Malloy’s Christmas Eve Mass
December 17, 2020
ROCKFORD—Christmas Eve Mass celebrated by Bishop David Malloy will be available on television thanks to Rockford NBC affiliate WREX Channel 13.
State and local restrictions on in-person gatherings and the fear of contracting COVID-19 virus have kept many, especially the most vulnerable people, away from Mass. While many parishes in the Rockford Diocese have added Christmas Masses and stream them online, the diocese wants to make the celebration of Christmas Mass available to as many Catholics as possible.
So, as they did at Easter, the Diocese of Rockford has partnered with WREX to make viewing possible through broadcast TV.
According to the Office of Communication and Publications, Bishop Malloy’s celebration of Christmas Eve Mass from the Cathedral of St. Peter, Rockford, will be broadcast on Channel 13 at 10:30 p.m. on Dec. 24. The local Mass will be immediately followed by Mass with Pope Francis from the Basilica of St. Peter in Rome.
“We are so grateful to WREX for this opportunity to bring the holy Mass of Christmas Eve to those unable to attend Mass in person on that night in addition to all those who wish to watch the celebration from their own diocesan Cathedral,” said Penny Wiegert, diocesan director of communication.
