Diocesan Natives Celebrate  Religious Jubilees This Year

60 years
Sister Catherine Cox, OP
 
Sister Catherine Cox, OP, will mark her 60th jubilee as a Sinsinawa Dominican in 2021. Her religious name was Sister Anne Mary.
 
Sister Catherine’s home parish is St. Mary, Galena, in the Rockford Diocese. She is the daughter of the late Everett “Dale” and Anne (Joyce) Cox. 
 
Sister Catherine’s ministry has been dedicated to teaching. 
 
In the Archdiocese of Chicago, she taught at St. Thomas More, Chicago (1963-1968) where she also organized and ran the Learning Center (1972-1976); at St. Luke, River Forest (1976-1986); and at St. Barnabas, Chicago (1991-1993). She served as principal at St. Zachary, Des Plaines (1986-1990) and St. Hugh, Lyons (1990-1991), as well as adjunct teacher at Dominican University, River Forest (1991-1992). 
 
In the Archdiocese of Omaha, Sister Catherine taught at St. Cecilia, Omaha (1968-1970). 
 
In the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, she taught at St. Clement, Sheboygan (1970-1972). 
 
In the Diocese of Joliet, Sister Catherine served the Joliet Diocese Catholic Schools Office, Joliet, as assistant superintendent of teacher personnel (1993-1997), and she taught at St. Isaac Jogues, Hinsdale (1997-2009).  
Sister Catherine is now retired and living in Madison, Wis.

Sister Virginia Pfluger, OP
 
Sister Virginia “Ginny” Pfluger, OP, will mark her 60th jubilee as a Sinsinawa Dominican in 2021. Her religious name was Sister Marie Florence. 
 
Sister Virginia’s home parish is St. Patrick in Rockford, in the Rockford Diocese. She is the daughter of the late Eugene and Cecilia (Vollmer) Pfluger. 
 
Sister Virginia’s ministry has been dedicated to social services and administration. She has ministered in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois and California.
 
In the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis, she taught at Annunciation, Minneapolis (1961-1968). 
 
In the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, Sister Virginia ministered as principal at St. Bernard, Wauwatosa, 1968-1973. 
 
In the Diocese of Peoria, she served as associate superintendent for the Diocesan Office of Education, Peoria (1973-1975). 
 
In the Diocese of Madison, Sister Virginia ministered at Edgewood College, Madison, as: a teacher (1975-1976); as director of continuing education (1976-1979); and as director of alumni (1979-1986). She served the Sinsinawa Dominican Congregation as the first director of development (1979-1986) and as a general councilor (1990-1994). 
 
In the Diocese of San Jose, Sister Virginia ministered in social work at the Emergency Housing Consortium, San Jose (2000-2007). 
 
In the Diocese of Spokane, she ministered in congregation ministry at the Dominican Center, Spokane (2008-2010). 
 
Sister Virginia now is living in community in Madison, Wis.
 
50 years
Sister Jeanne Tranel, OP
 
Sister Jeanne Tranel will mark her 50th jubilee as a Sinsinawa Dominican in 2021. 
 
Sister Jeanne’s home parish is Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish, Menominee, in the Rockford Diocese. She is the daughter of the late Howard and Lillian (Hilby) Tranel. 
 
Sister Jeanne’s ministry has been dedicated to pastoral work and education. 
 
In the Archdiocese of Santa Fe, she served as pastoral associate and director of religious education at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish and its missions, Peña Blanca (1997-2003). 
 
In the Archdiocese of Dubuque, she served as pastoral associate at Holy Family Parish, New Hampton (2003-2012), where she also ministered with the Hispanic community. 
 
Since 2012, she has served in the Diocese of Great Falls-Billings as pastoral associate at St. Patrick Co-Cathedral, Billings. 
 
Sister Jeanne also ministered in California, Illinois and Texas, as well as Bolivia.

Sister Judith “Judy” Nickels, SSSF
 
Sister Judith Nickels celebrates 60 years as a School Sister of St. Francis.
 
She was born in Aurora. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology from Alverno College in Milwaukee and a Master of Arts degree in theology from the University of Notre Dame in Indiana.
 
In the Diocese of Joliet, Sister Judith taught at St. Michael School in Wheaton (1964-1968) and served as the parish’s religious education coordinator and teacher (1968-1971). She also taught at St. Raphael in Naperville (1971-1977) and served as that parish’s director of religious education (1977-1986).
 
In the Diocese of Rockford, Sister Judith served as director of adult education at St. John Neumann Parish in St. Charles (1986-2018).
 
She currently resides in Aurora.

Sister Rosemary Reier, SSSF
 
Sister Rosemary Reier celebrates 60 years as a School Sister of St. Francis.
 
She was born in Aurora. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from Alverno College in Milwaukee. 
 
In the Diocese of Rockford, Sister Rosemary taught at St. John the Baptist School in Johnsburg (1963-1967 and 1984-1992), Mount St. Francis School High School in Rockford (1971-1972), Holy Family School in Rockford (1972-1973), and Sacred Heart School in Aurora (1978-1983). 
 
In the Diocese of Joliet, Illinois, she taught at St. Walter School in Roselle (1967-1971 and 1973-1978). 
 
In the Archdiocese of Chicago, Sister Rosemary served as director of vocations and Tau Volunteers for her congregation’s U.S. Province in Chicago (1992-1996).  
 
In the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, she taught at St. Josephat School in Milwaukee (2002-2012) and served her congregation’s U.S. Province in Milwaukee as vocations director (1996-2001), director of the Tau Volunteer program (2012-2014) and co-director of Associate Relationship (2012-2019). 
 
Sister Rosemary now resides in Milwaukee.
