Scouts Honored at Scout Sunday Mass

ROCKFORD—Together again! After a hiatus due to COVID-19, Bishop David Malloy joined with Catholic scouts and their leaders from throughout the diocese to reverently celebrate their achievements in person on Scout Sunday, Feb. 6. During the 2 p.m awards ceremony at the Cathedral of St. Peter, Bishop Malloy conferred Catholic religious awards earned by the scouts.
The medals are particularly significant because they are not required of a scout. Each scout chooses to do the work necessary to earn them. All are designed to help boys and girls grow stronger in their faith through their particular scouting program.
“Catholic Scouting is a means to help you get to heaven,” Bishop Malloy told the scouts.
The religious awards conferred included The Light of Christ, Parvuli Dei, Ad Altare Dei, Pope Pius XII, Pillars of Faith, God is Love, I Live My Faith and the Marian Medal.
