Deacon Harold Poss Dies Oct. 18

AURORA—Deacon Harold Poss, 89, of Aurora, died at home on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014. He was born in Aurora to the late Henry and Catherine (Jungels) Poss.

On May 3, 1952, he married Mary Ann Molitor. He attended Annunciation BVM Grade School in Aurora and graduated from Batavia High School in 1943.

He was ordained as a deacon in 1992 and served at Annunciation BVM Parish in Aurora for 20 years. He also served as a lector and Eucharistic minister at St. Joseph Parish in Aurora.

He volunteered in the Rockford Diocese Cursillo movement for 35 years and at Hesed House in Aurora for 30 years.

He volunteered as a Cub Scout leader and as a Little League baseball coach for over 15 years. He was a Fox Valley Hospice volunteer for more than 15 years.

He owned a trucking business for 36 years, and a sealcoating business for 10 years.

Visitation was  at Annunciation BVM Parish in Aurora on Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2014.

A funeral Mass was celebrated by Father Patrick Gillmeyer and Father Daniel Peters on Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2014, at the parish. Deacon Mike Giblin and Deacon Larry Motyka assisted at the Mass.

Deacon Poss is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; children, William Poss, Cynthia Foley, Robert Poss, Linda (Gary) Vadnais and Michael (Sara) Poss; grandchildren, Julie (David) Kramer, Matthew (Veronica) Poss, William (Holly) Poss, Cassandra Foley, Sean Foley, Michael Vadnais, Kathleen Vadnais, Mary Jane Poss and Anna Marie Poss; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Eleanor (Ronald) Getz and Laurelle (Charles) Muehling.

Along with his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his sister, Kathlyn (Francis) Monroe.

Before his death, he requested memorials be made to Hesed House, 659 S. River St., Aurora, IL 60506.
