ROCKFORD—If Illinois oversight authority approves, construction of an addition to St. Anthony Medical Center could begin in August.
The four-story addition would add 78 private rooms for medical and surgical patients.
In the existing hospital, semi-private rooms will be converted to private rooms, giving the hosptial 190 private rooms when the project is completed. There will be no change in the number of licensed beds.
“Private rooms and a more modern setting will truly help.” — Paula Carynski, president of OSF St. Anthony Medical Center |
Some walk-in patient services will be offered on the first floor of the addition, such as PromptCare, Women’s Services, and a retail pharmacy.
The project is estimated to cost $85 million.
The OSF Healthcare System directors and the hospital administration are seeking approval from the Illinois Health Facilities and Review Board before the project goes forward.
“Enhancing the experience for our patients, families, employees and medical staff is always at the forefront of our planning,” Paula Carynski, president of OSF St. Anthony Medical Center, said.
“Private rooms and a more modern setting will truly help,” she said. “We are also very pleased to be able to make such a tremendous investment in our community through this expansion.”
If ground is broken in August, it is expected that construction will be complete by early 2018.
