An estimated 700 people dined-in or carried-out strawberry treats and more at Strawberry Fest June 17 at St. Joseph Parish Hall in Lena. Diners feasted on pulled pork or barbeque sandwiches, baked beans, potato salad and chips, beverages and a choice of a piece of strawberry pie, a sundae or a shortcake.

Father Andrew Skrobutt, pastor, took part in his first Strawberry Fest along with the Rev. Mr. Charles Fitzpatrick, transitional deacon.

Former pastor, Father Max Striedl, came to visit from his current parish, St. Mary in Huntley.

The annual event draws strawberry fans from a large area. Recent festival profits were used to buy tables and chairs for the year-old hall just in time for last year’s Strawberry Fest.

This year’s profits will buy candles, hosts and wine for the church, as well as more roasters and other kitchen items.
