ROCKFORD—“NFP Awareness Week is an opportunity for us to share the beauty of NFP with everyone,” says Jennifer Collins, director of the diocesan Life and Family Evanglization (LiFE) Office.
The week, sponsored by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, will be July 19-25.
Natural Family Planning, Collins says, is important to “those who have never heard of it, those who have misconceptions about it, married couples, engaged couples preparing for marriage, women who are experiencing reproductive health challenges, couples struggling with infertility, single women who simply want to understand what their body is telling them — NFP can help.
“This week is also an opportunity to affirm, encourage and support those who already know NFP and are living it in their marriage,” she adds. “The Church knows that family life is challenging, and that couples striving to live the fullness of married life according to God’s design for man and woman make tremendous sacrifices in their daily lives. To all of those couples who are living witnesses of Christ’s love for His bride, the Church — witnesses of this love that is free, total, faithful and fruitful — we thank you.”
Collins says anyone who wonders about NFP can best learn about it through one of the diocese’s certified NFP providers. (See box below).
The providers specialize in one of three particular methods — the Creighton Model, the Couple to Couple League and the Billings Ovulation Method.
The providers “have received extensive education and training become experts in this field,” she said, “and any of them would be happy to answer your questions. Instruction in NFP is available in English and Spanish. “
