Rosary Student Honored for ‘Crayons for Kids’ Supply Drive

AURORA—Rosary High School student Monica Zimmerman (‘16) has received a Certificate of Excellence from the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards and a President’s Volunteer Service Award granted by the program on behalf of President Obama.

She was honored for her work with the Crayons for Kids program, founded in 2004 by Monica’s brother Brian Zimmerman (Marmion ’07). She has worked with the program since then.  Last year, more than 36,000 packages of supplies were collected and given to children in need.

Crayons for Kids—How to Help

AURORA—Crayons for Kids collects school supplies and distributes them to nearly 90 Fox Valley schools and agencies in the Fox Valley and Naperville area, covering 15 communities in four counties. To help, watch for Rosary High School and Marmion  Academy students at Jewel-Osco stores July 25-26 and Aug. 1-2.

Monica helps recruit and schedule volunteers from both high schools, tracks data, sorts, packs and delivers supplies, and helps schedule participation by Jewel-Osco and other stores.

The daughter of Julie and Steven Zimmerman of Batavia,  she serves on Rosary’s student council, and participates in debate club, the Marmion-Rosary band and jazz band.
