Laudato Si’ Topic of Aug. 6 Geneva Talk

GENEVA—David Cloutier, Ph.D., will discuss implications of Pope Francis’ encyclical on the environment, Laudato Si,’ Aug. 6 at 7 p.m.

St. Peter Parish, 1891 Kaneville Road, will host the free talk, titled “Caring For God’s Earth and People.”

The discussion aims to help participants understand:

n Implications of Pope Francis’s encyclical Laudato Si’ (Praise Be).

n What the pope is calling Catholics to do, and why?

n Catholic beliefs and doctrines foundational for our call to care for creation.

n Why environmental issues are so important for our spiritual lives and well-being.

n The Catholic commitment to serve and protect the poor and vulnerable as part of caring for creation.

Dr. Cloutier is an associate professor of theology at Mount St. Mary’s University in Maryland, teaching courses in moral theology and Catholic social thought.

He has written several books,  including a recent publication, “Walking God’s Earth.”
