CRYSTAL LAKE—The McHenry Chapter of Magnificat, a ministry to Catholic women, held its spring prayer breakfast here. Father Joseph Ekpo, assistant pastor of St. Simeon Parish in Bellwood, was guest speaker.

Held on Mother’s Day weekend, Father Ekpo spoke of the unique love that a mother has for her child and the special graces that are shared by all women through this gift of God’s love.

Father Ekpo shared memories of his own childhood and the joyous celebrations of motherhood that take place each year in his native Nigeria and he spoke of the strength he received from growing up in a loving family while his country was plagued with the turbulence of civil war.

Attendees described the gathering as “absolutely awesome,” saying, “Father Ekpo is such an inspiration,” and “the fellowship of all these ladies is so uplifting.”

Along with Father Ekpo’s  testimony, attendees shared a hot breakfast and sang along in praise with the Peace music team.

The McHenry Chapter, Mary — Mother of the Eucharist, holds two prayer breakfasts each year, in spring and fall. The next breakfast will be Nov. 14, with Lu Cortese, founder of St. Joseph Radio, as guest speaker.
