Storytelling Project Seeks Memories about Rockford’s Poor Clares
March 31, 2016

ROCKFORD—Abbie Reese is continuing her collaboration with the Poor Clare Colettines of Rockford.

Her book, “Dedicated to God: An Oral History of Cloistered Nuns,” was the first selection for The Observer’s One Diocese, One Book program.

She expects the documentary film, “Chosen (Custody of the Eyes),” will be ready for release this year during the 100th anniversary of the Poor Clares’ arrival in Rockford. They were invited by Bishop Peter J. Muldoon, the first bishop of Rockford, in 1916.

The newest effort is through The Storytelling Trust. People who have memories of or family stories about the Poor Clare Colettines of Rockford are invited to share them at the Storytelling website.

Reese’s first storytelling project was in 2008, when she collected oral histories for “Untold Stories: Freeport’s African-American History” for the city of Freeport.

The collection of stories about the Poor Clares is an extension of her storytelling project.

Participants will be able to share their stories through an interactive online form at http://storytellingtrust.org/share-your-story.html.
