Chorale to Prep for Silver And Gold Mass
Feargal King, director of the Rockford Diocesan Liturgical Chorale for the past 15 years passes the musical baton to new chorale director, Valerie Oestry.

ROCKFORD—Valerie Oestry, new director of the Diocesan Liturgial Chorale, invites newcomers to join the chorale for its next liturgy, the annual Rockford Diocese Silver and Gold Mass, Aug. 21, slated for 2:30 p.m. at St. Mary in Huntley.

Dates for rehearsals for the Mass are Aug. 12, 13, 19 and 20. Times will vary and locations are being arranged.

Passing The Musical Baton

The 2016 ordination of priests’ was the final event for Feargal King as director of the Rockford Diocesan Liturgical Chorale, a position he has held for 15 years.
Valerie Oestry, a parishioner at St. Thomas More in Elgin is the new chorale director.
She is music director at St. John Vianney Parish in Northlake.

Oestry holds a master of music degree in voice performance and plays the piano and organ.  She has started a master’s degree program in liturgical studies.

She has sung with the chorale and directed a portion of the priests’ ordination in June.

She is married “with kids and dogs” and lives in Elgin. She has about 17 years experience as a Catholic church choral director and is the music director at St. John Vianney in Northlake in the Archdiocese of Chicago.
