ELGIN—St. Joseph School here partnered with Elgin Public School District U-46 to provide two weeks of summer reading intervention support for 24 St. Joseph students at no cost to the students.

The classes were held at St. Joseph School and taught by teachers from the school:  Carol Norman (kindergarten-second grade), Greg Lange (third-fifth grade), and Jean Wagner (sixth-eighth grade.)

The teachers worked with their students on reading and writing strategies that will help them be successful in this school year.

On the last day of summer school the teachers walked with their students to the nearby Burger King to celebrate their accomplishments.

Much to the students’ surprise, two Elgin police officers stopped by to award the youngest students gold badges for their hard work.

The students thanked the local police officers for their dedication to Elgin.

A couple of the students told the officers that they dream of becoming police officers when they grow up.
The principal of St. Joseph Catholic School in Elgin is Dr. Peter Trumblay.
