For Women: Discern Lay, Religious Life

BATAVIA—The Servants of the Holy Heart of Mary invite women in the Rockford Diocese to discover a sisterhood of faith-filled women.

And with many possible roles, that sisterhood extends outside becoming a religious sister.

All women, whether married, single, divorced or widowed, are called to consider joining the religious sisters in layperson or consecrated roles:

– affiliate

– servant companion

–n consecrated lay woman

– prayer partner, or

– vowed sister.

Anyone interested in learning more about these options is invited to join the sisters for refreshments and conversation Feb. 7, 9-11 a.m., at the Nazareth Spirituality Center, 717 N. Batavia Avenue. Cost: none.

RSVP to Kathy Brady-Murfin by Feb. 5, 4 p.m., at [email protected] or call 815-814-1414.

What are the layperson roles?

Affiliate: a lay woman who continues her daily life and joins the community for meetings and events.

Servant companion: a woman (single, widowed or divorced) who, after completing a three-month formation program, lives in the community and works in a ministry. A temporary and renewable commitment.

Consecrated lay woman: a woman (single, widowed or divorced) who takes a private vow of celibacy for one year (renewable). She lives in her own home and continues her daily life while receiving spiritual direction.

Prayer partner: a woman who prays at home for the intentions shared with the sisters.
