AURORA—At a late June Aurora City Council meeting, Mayor John Laesch (pictured, far right) honored Aurora Central Catholic High School’s track and field team for capturing multiple Illinois High School Association (IHSA) state championships in late May.
Those victories also set school records. On May 23, ACC student-athlete Cecelia Hilby broke a school record, running the 800-meter dash in just 2:11.53, earning the Girls Class 2A 800-meter dash state championship. The next week, on May 30, the team of Ben Bohr, Jack Swiatek, Giovannie Gutierrez, and John Reinbold earned the Boys 4×800-meter relay state championship with a time of 7:42.43, also breaking a school record.
The athletes received personalized Mayor’s Awards of Excellence for their success at the state level.
“These are such amazing accomplishments for the Aurora Central Catholic Charger community and the City of Aurora,” Mayor John Laesch said. “Each athlete’s exceptional talent and hard work have truly made Aurora proud.”
