St. Mary, Elgin, Students Active in Ministries

ELGIN—In recent messages to The Observer, St. Mary School principal Carol Norman highlighted two ministries involving students.

St. Mary’s Divine Mercy Ministry includes fifth- and sixth-grade students who lead the Chaplet of Divine Mercy daily after morning Mass. On Fridays, all students and staff pray the chaplet together in the gym.

Many students at St. Mary School are involved in choir. A 30-member children’s choir sings at the parish’s family Masses on the second Sunday of each month. The school also has five small student choirs who sing at school Masses, rotating throughout the year.

Hampshire Students Surprise Nursing Home Residents with Visit and Gifts

HAMPSHIRE—St. Charles Borromeo School’s student council members teamed up with the parish’s Society of St. Vincent de Paul to deliver themed goody bags to the residents of The Pearl of St. Charles Nursing Home.

The bags, made for different interests like art, games, beauty and more, included items donated by school families during Catholic Schools Week.

While visiting, the students also spent time with the residents, making Valentine’s Day cards together.
