The Diocesan Pastoral Council, DPC, is the first consultative group to begin discussion called for by Pope Francis to prepare for the World Synod of Bishops in 2023.

During its regular meeting Nov. 6, DPC members addressed questions on how the Church does or does not journey together. The questions followed the thematic categories of the synod which are “communion, participation and mission.”

Due to previously scheduled back-to-back confirmation Masses, Bishop David Malloy set the stage for the council discussion through a video message. He presented a little background and history of the synod process and what it means to the universal Church. Bishop Malloy invited the DPC to begin their discussion in the context of faith and provide input as to how the “Church can better live out the unity of faith.”

As part of the Synodal Process input from other consultative bodies within the diocese and its parishes, as well as indivdual Catholics will be gathered and summarized and ultimately synthesized into one document for the World Synod in 2023.
