Rockford’s Walk for Life Planned for Jan. 15, 2022
December 23, 2021
ROCKFORD—The second annual Rockford Walk for Life will take place on Jan. 15, 2022, at 11 a.m.

The event will begin with a rally at the Stanley J. Roszkowski United States Federal Courthouse at 327 South Church Street and then walk in procession past the State of Illinois building at 200 South Wyman Street, and then back to the Federal Courthouse.

Modeled after the March for Life in Washington, DC, the event is being organized by the Rockford Family Initiative, and several area churches and social/political groups will be in attendance.

“Illinois has very pro-abortion laws, but thankfully there are Marches and Walks for Life happening all over the country,” said Kevin Rilott, president of Rockford Family Initiative.

“Now is our chance to join all of these pro-lifers with our own rally and walk, right here in Rockford. Thankfully we have a vibrant pro-life community, with over 1,000 pro-lifers coming out for the Rockford Walk for Life last year — and we are expecting an even bigger turnout this year,” he said.

On Dec. 1, the U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments in the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization case, which could overturn Roe v. Wade.

Pro-lifers have been working and praying for years for a case to come before the Supreme Court that could result in abortion being illegal in several states.

“Right now — as the Supreme Court is poised to issue its decision that could overturn Roe v. Wade — is the time to make our voices heard in defense of the unborn,” said Rilott. “Abortion takes a human life, and we will be standing up together to express our love for God and all of His children,” he continued.

Illinois is considered an “abortion capital” in the U.S., and in May 2019 the IL General Assembly passed one of the most pro-abortion laws in the country. This law declares that a baby in the womb does not have independent rights and that women have a fundamental “right” to abortion.

The Walk for Life event will feature several speakers, including Steve Jacobs, the program director of Illinois Right to Life, and Mary Kate Knorr, former executive director of Ill. Right to Life and founder and president of Feminae Vero.

The Walk for Life will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Attendees should follow all state and local COVID-19 protocols.
