New Mural Print Enhances Celebrations at Marian Central
April 21, 2022
WOODSTOCK—On April 11, Bishop David Malloy celebrated Mass at Marian Central Catholic High School in McHenry and blessed the school’s new mural, a print called “Christ in Glory and Mary, Theotokos.”

School Masses are held in the gymnasium, and in 2018 Father Jared Twenty (then-coordinator for spiritual activities) and Vito DeFrisco (former interim superintendent) began to talk about how the gym might be better transformed for celebrations such as Masses and graduations.

“It was a team effort,” Father Twenty says, “with input provided from staff and students on the Catholic Identity Committee.”

The mural from New Jerusalem Studios can be used as a backdrop, then electronically rolled up into a holder on the gym wall during sports events. Saints depicted on the mural include Mother Teresa, Pope St. John Paul II, St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Cecilia, St. John Bosco, and St. Sebastian.

“The image is of a heavenly gate, on the pillars of which you’ll find the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary in recognition of the Marian Central chapel entrusted to them, as well as 12 gemstones representing the 12 Apostles,” Father Twenty says.
