ELGIN—One of the missions of the Knights of Columbus is to advocate for a culture of life.  The grace of that commitment was confirmed at TLC Pregnancy Services on May 18 when Bishop David Malloy blessed a new ultrasound machine generously donated to TLC.

TLC executive director Vivian Maly offered appreciation to members of the Knights of Columbus Holy Family Council #11981, Holy Family Catholic Community in Inverness, and Knights of Columbus Cardinal Stritch Council #3674, St. Joseph Parish in Libertyville, who were present. They celebrated their combined accomplishments of raising $13,000 with a $13,000 match from the Knights of Columbus Charities. This enabled them to give a life-saving ultrasound machine to TLC to help empower women to see their unborn children.

“Expectations are very high when doubting mothers with uncertainty visit clinics and see their child on an ultrasound,” said Bishop Malloy, “and at a rate of 85% they keep their child. This confirms the truth and grace of human nature revealed in God’s plan. Hearts are changed when science is revealed to show the gift of life. Disregard of life is changed by love to reverse that culture.  God’s love will change sadness to joy with a machine like this.”

Members of the two Knights of Columbus councils were proud of the work they had done to bring the ultrasound machine to TLC. “The need is great and we were happy to partner with our Knights in Libertyville to make this happen,” said Knight Bill Booth of Council #11981, who attended with his Council’s Grand Knight Greg Flanagan and Deputy Grand Knight Rick McMahon. “We have a strong commitment to life through our life program at Holy Family led by Dan Tokarz, life program director,” added Flanagan. “It was a miracle in that we raised our funds for this.”

Grand Knight Ricky Hobbs of Council #3674 was proud of his Council’s work to make the ultrasound donation a reality. He was joined by significant donor Mark Berens.

TLC is a ministry that provides free medical, material, emotional & spiritual support to local women facing unplanned pregnancy situations, providing support to save babies’ lives. TLC helps women facing unplanned pregnancies through its Life Choices Medical Clinic.  Their support reaches women in three locations both in and around the Diocese of Rockford in Elgin, Carpentersville, and Streamwood, and with a Mobile Ultrasound Unit in Carpentersville.

Upon reflection after Bishop Malloy’s blessing of the new ultrasound machine, Knight Booth said, “TLC needed this ultrasound and we are doing God’s work.”
