Marmion Academy Hosts Groundbreaking
May 25, 2023
AURORA—On May 5, Marmion Academy held its groundbreaking ceremonies and reception for the renovation of multi-sport Fichtel Field and the varsity baseball field.

Construction of the new artificial turf surface and track and field event areas began May 8. The renovations are expected to be completed in late summer or early fall of 2023.

The project’s funding was made possible by the bequest of Ed Regole, a 1950 graduate of Marmion who died on Aug. 15, 2022.

He and his wife Vivienne’s support has allowed the school to make multiple enhancements to its facilities, including the Regole Natatorium, the Regole Science Center, and the Regole Field House.

When Regole was a student, he had wanted to participate in sports but had to work every day after school on the family dairy farm. So it was important to him to provide the academy and its student athletes with a “game-changing” gift upon his passing.

“Marmion was a special place to Ed; he considered his gifts through the years to be his legacy,” said Father Charles Reichenbacher, OSB ’59, longtime friend and Director of Planned Giving.
