Deacon James ‘Jim’ Woeste Dies June 24

CINCINNATI—Deacon James “Jim” H. Woeste, 81, died June 24, 2023. 
He was ordained a permanent deacon for the Archdiocese of Cincinnati on June 22, 1985, and served in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati; the Diocese of Syracuse, New York; the Archdiocese of Chicago; and the Diocese of Rockford, returning to the Archdiocese of Cincinnati in 2017. 
He married Barbara Kuethe, with whom he shared 58 years. 
He earned an associate’s degree in mechanical engineering from Ohio College of Applied Science, a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from the University of Cincinnati, and a master’s degree in religious studies from the College of Mount Saint Joseph. 
He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Kuethe) Woeste; his sons, James (Amy) and Douglas; his daughters, Mary Grace (Brad) Sweeney and Sheila (Theo) Craft; his brother John (Janet) Woeste; siblings-in-law, Jim (Judy) Kuethe, Tom (Jan) Kuethe, Debbie (Chris) Detwiler, Mary (Fred) Caito and Vicki (Pat) Williams; ten grandchildren, Erin, Michael, and Tessa Woeste, Chelsea, Sean, Thomas, and Daniel Sweeney, and Anika, Daxavier, and Gabriel Craft; and many nieces, nephews and friends. 
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Ruth (Krehnbrink) Woeste; his brother Charles (Lois) Woeste; and his sister Mary (Ken) Kramer.
Visitation was held July 6 at the Tufts Schildmeyer Funeral Home in Loveland, Ohio, 129 N. Riverside Ave. Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial was July 7 at St. Philip the Apostle Church in Morrow, Ohio. 
Memorials may be made in his memory to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul at St. Philip the Apostle Church or the permanent diaconate formation program at the Athenaeum of Ohio.
