ELGIN—Annmarie Dufelmeier is the new principal at St. Edward Central Catholic High School, but she is not new to the school.
Principal Dufelmeier came to St. Edward’s in 2011, first serving as a Secondary English Language Arts teacher, which includes creative writing, journalism, health, skills development, technology integration and accelerated literacy. She also was moderator for Students Against Destructive Decisions, Operation Click Safe Driving Club, Rotary Interact Club, and was the chairperson for Prom. She also coached softball.
Principal Dufelmeier then chaired the English Department (2016-2020), managing the department, introducing online tools, developing a process to assess writing and literacy levels, and an objective, data-driven honors placement system. She facilitated department goals and led the team to continually refine its system.
From 2020 through the last school year, she served as assistant principal at the school. In that position, she led meetings, developed and implemented curriculum, and fostered communication between students, parent, staff and community members, as well as encouraging continuous improvement and motivation. She also refined/revised school policies and became a resource and communication liaison for the school community.
In May 2022, she obtained a master of arts in school leadership from Concordia University Chicago. Her prior degrees included an M.A. from Concordia in teaching, secondary education English Language Arts, a professional educator license (PEL) from the State of Illinois, and a bachelor of arts from the University of Iowa in Iowa City.
