AURORA—The 2023 Catholic Women of Inspiration in the Aurora Deanery were celebrated on Aug. 20, the first time since the pandemic derailed what had been an annual event.

The celebration, presented by the Aurora Deanery Council of Catholic Women, was held at Lincoln Inn Banquets and honored 13 women from deanery parishes. Following dinner, each woman was escorted by at least one of her parish’s priests as Aurora Deanery CCW president, Mary Glosson, provided a few words about how each inspires others. A much longer explanation for the honorees was provided in the
evening’s program.

Msgr. Thomas Dzielak provided a few words of thanks to the women, noting that each of them also represented other women who serve at their parishes.

“This (event) has been going on for many years … and rightly so,” Msgr. Dzielak said. “Women bring something special to the table. God has given men and women different approaches to life. … The women in our parishes who do so much are really invaluable … “I think something like this is so important.”

Msgr. Dzielak, who has been spiritual advisor to the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women for about 30 years, then gave what he called a “commercial,” where he called the Council of Catholic Women “one of the most important groups in the Catholic Church.”

He noted the 100+ years old organization is represented at the annual gatherings of the U.S. bishops, saying, “that’s really important (because) it gives them an opportunity to hear about the concerns of Catholic women.”

He encouraged the women present to join the CCW, inviting in particular those of Hispanic heritage who he said “would be welcomed.”

“Congratulations to all of you,” he concluded, “Let’s always appreciate not only today but appreciate every day the special gift that God gives us in the work of so many dedicated Catholic women.”
