ROCKFORD—Cathedral of St. Peter students gave a classmate who is battling leukemia a huge surprise. 

 

The students, some of their family members, teachers, friends and representatives from Make-A-Wish Illinois gathered March 23 for a surprise send-off for 11-year-old Bella Meyer and her family to the Bahamas for spring break. 

 

Bella was greeted with gifts, sunglasses, balloons and cheers as she came down the stairs and was told she was going to spend a week at the Atlantis Paradise Island Resort in the Bahamas where she wanted to “go on the water slides, maybe ride a jet-ski and swim with the dolphins.” 

 

“We were all so surprised and this means so much to us,” said Bella’s mom, Becki Meyer.
