Priests Accept Bishop’s Assignments as Pastors

Father Barch Heading West
 
BYRON—Father Howard C. Barch, pastor of St. Mary Parish in Byron, will become pastor of St. Michael and St. Mary parishes in Galena and Holy Trinity Parish in Scales Mound on June 17.
 
Born in Detroit, he studied at Brother Rice High School in Birmingham, Mich., graduating in 1973. He earned a bachelor’s in philosophy at IHM Seminary, St. Mary College in Winona, Minn., and he graduated with a master’s in Dogmatic Theology and M.Div. from Holy Apostles Seminary in Cromwell, Conn., in 1993.
 
He was ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Peoria by Bishop John Myers on May 29, 1993.
 
Father Barch was incardinated into the Diocese of Rockford on Aug. 1, 2005. He served as parochial vicar at St. Michael and St. Mary parishes in Galena (January 2004 to June 2005), then at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish in Menominee, first as administrator (July 2005 to June 2008) and then as pastor (July 2008 to May 2009).
 
Father Barch then served as pastor at St. Joseph and St. Mary parishes in Freeport (June 2009 to October 2010), and was chaplain to the Freeport Police and Fire Department and Stephenson County (April to December 2010). Following a two-month leave, he began service as parochial vicar at St. Mary Parish in Woodstock (December 2010 to June 2011).
 
Father Barch began service at St. Mary in Byron, first as administrator (July 2011 to June 2012), then as pastor to the present time.
 
Additionally, Father Barch served as director (November 2012 to October 2013) and then executive director (October 2013 to June 2015) of Catholic Cemeteries for the Diocese of Rockford. He is a member of the Stewardship Commission, and began service as diocesan coordinator of Prison and Jail Ministry in June 2015.
 
Father Ervin Pio Caliente now Pastor
 
ROCKFORD—Father Ervin Pio Caliente is now pastor of St. Rita Parish in Rockford.
 
Born in Tarlac City, Philippines, he studied at Tarlac National High School, graduating in 1995. His college studies were at Our Lady of Peace College Seminary in the Philippines, then at St. Mary of the Lake Seminary in Mundelein where he graduated with an M. Div. in 2015. For a time, he was a member of the Augustinian religious order.
 
He was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop David Malloy on June 6, 2015 at the Cathedral of St. Peter.
Father Caliente served as parochial vicar at St. Mary Parish in Huntley (June 2015 to June 2018) at the same time teaching part time at Marian Central Catholic High School in Woodstock. He also served as associate master of ceremonies for the diocese (July 2015 to June 2017), and as coordinator of spiritual activities at Marian Central (June 2017 to June 2018).
 
He served as administrator at St. Rita Parish in Rockford since June 2018, serving also as Faithful Friar for Muldoon Knights Council 190, and chaplain for St. Rita KC Council 7624.
 
Msgr. Daniel Deutsch Heads to Hometown, St. Charles
 
LOVES PARK—Msgr. Daniel Deutsch becomes pastor of St. Patrick Parish in his hometown of St. Charles on June 17.
 
Born in St. Charles, he graduated from St. Edward Central Catholic High School in Elgin in 1980 and from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb in 1984. He is a graduate also of St. Mary of the Lake Seminary in Mundelein.
 
He was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop Arthur J. O’Neill on May 21, 1994 at the Cathedral of St. Peter. He was honored with the title, Chaplain to His Holiness, Nov. 22, 2007.
 
Msgr. Deutsch began his priestly service as parochial vicar at St. Bridget Parish in Loves Park, teaching part time at Boylan Central Catholic High School (June 1994 to June 1997). He also served in those roles at Holy Angels Parish in Aurora and Aurora Central Catholic High School (June 1997 to October 1999).
 
He was pastor of St. Patrick Parish in Dixon (November 1999 to July 2001), then of Holy Cross Parish in Batavia (July 2001 to February 2013). He was Vicar Forane (dean) of the Aurora Deanery (July 2008 to February 2013), and was diocesan chaplain to the American Heritage Girls (May 2011 on).
 
Msgr. Deutsch became the Episcopal Vicar for Clergy and Religious/Vocations and pastor of St. Bridget Parish in Loves Park (February 2013 to present).
 
Additionally, Msgr. Deutsch has been a member of the Priests Health Committee ex officio since October 2013, and is a diocesan consultor (January 2000-February 2015 and March 2015 to March 2020), and chaplain for the Rockford Chapter of Legatus since July 2016.
 
Father Matthew McMorrow Becomes Aurora Pastor
 
DEKALB—Father Matthew McMorrow, S.T.L., becomes pastor of St. Joseph Parish in Aurora effective June 17.
 
The DeKalb native attended DeKalb High School, graduating in 1994. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Northern Illinois University and completed studies for the priesthood at St. Mary of the Lake Seminary in Mundelein.
 
He was ordained a priest by Bishop Thomas G. Doran on May 21, 2005 at the Cathedral of St. Peter. He began his priestly service as parochial vicar at St. John Neumann Parish in St. Charles, also teaching part time at St. Edward Central Catholic School in Elgin (May 2005 to June 2007).
 
He served as assistant principal of religious education at Boylan Central Catholic High School in Rockford (June 2007 to June 2012) and as Diocesan Scout Chaplain (August 2007 to June 2017).
 
At Christ the Teacher Parish in DeKalb, Father McMorrow served as parochial vicar (June 2012 to October 2012), as administrator (October 2012 to April 2014), and as pastor (April 2014 to the present). He also has been Diocesan Director of Campus Ministry since October 2012, and Dean/Vicar Forane of the DeKalb Deanery since June 2017.
 
Father Richard Rosinski Coming to Byron
 
ELGIN—Father Richard Rosinski becomes pastor of St. Mary Parish in Byron on June 17.
 
Born in Chicago, he attended Cary Grove High School in Cary, graduating in 1981. He attended Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, then completed priesthood studies at St. Mary Seminary in Baltimore, Md. 
 
He was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop Arthur J. O’Neill on May 18, 1991 at the Cathedral of St. Peter. He began his priestly service as parochial vicar at St. Bridget Parish in Loves Park (June 1991 to June 1994).
 
He served as parochial vicar at St. Mary Parish in DeKalb (June 1994 to June 1995), then was appointed as administrator at St. Edward Parish in Rockford (June 1995 to May 1996), and then returned as parochial vicar at St. Mary in DeKalb (May 1996 to January 1997), also serving as moderator for the DeKalb Deanery Council of Catholic Women.
 
Father Rosinski was administrator at St. Anne Parish in Dixon (January 1997 to June 1997), then became its pastor (June 1997 to November 2000). 
 
Father Rosinski served as pastor of St. Catherine of Siena Parish in West Dundee and of St. Mary Parish in Gilberts (November 2000 to June 2007). He became pastor of St. John Neumann Parish in St. Charles (June 2007 to July 2013) and then pastor of St. Thomas More Parish in Elgin (July 2013 to the present).
 
Additionally, Father Rosinski has served as Faithful Friar for the Knight of Columbus Council 1702 (September 1999 to November 2000), and for the Knights Council 2381 (June 2015 to the present). He has served on the Diocesan Liturgical Music Committee since July 2004, and has been a part of the Stewardship Commission representing the Elgin Deanery since September 2017.
 
Father Jeremy Trowbridge Becomes Cary Pastor
 
CARY–Father Jeremy A. Trowbridge, S.T.L., became pastor of SS. Peter and Paul Parish in Cary on April 30.
 
Born in Wausau, Wis., he attended North Boone High School in Poplar Grove, graduating in 2000.
 
He attended ITT Technical Institute in Greenfield, Wis., then studied at St. Gregory the Great Seminary in Seward, Neb. He was at Pontifical North American College in Rome (2006-11) and received his S.T.B. (Bachelor of Sacred Theology) from the University of St. Thomas Aquinas, Angelicum, Rome, Italy, in 2009, and his S.T.L. (Licentiate in Sacred Theology) from the Institute of John Paul II for Marriage and Family Studies in Rome in 2011. He was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop Thomas G. Doran on May 22, 2010 at the Cathedral of St. Peter.
 
Father Trowbridge began his priesthood with a two-month assignment at St. Bridget Parish in Loves Park (June 2010 to August 2010) before returning to Rome to complete his theology studies. He then served as parochial vicar at the Cathedral of St. Peter (July 2011 to July 2013), also teaching part time at Boylan Central Catholic High School in Rockford (June 2011 to July 2013). Those years also had him serving as chaplain for Bishop Muldoon Council 470 (October 2011 to October 2014), as an associate master of ceremonies for the diocese (November 2012 to October 2013), and as acting director of the Office of Family Life (February 2013 to September 2013).
 
Father Trowbridge served as parochial vicar at Christ the Teacher Parish in DeKalb (July 2013 to June 2018), as spiritual director of the diocesan Life and Family Evangelization Office (October 2013 to present), and was reappointed as associate master of ceremonies (October 2014 to present).
 
He was appointed to the Presbyteral Council (October 2015 to December 2018).
 
Father Trowbridge served as administrator at SS. Peter and Paul Parish in Cary (June 2018 to April 2019), before becoming pastor.
 
Father Ariel Valencia now Pastor in Virgil and Maple Park
 
VIRGIL/MAPLE PARK—Father Ariel A. Valencia will become pastor of SS. Peter and Paul Parish in Virgil and St. Mary Parish in Maple Park on June 17.
 
At that time, he also will begin as the Diocesan Coordinator of Filipino Ministry.
 
Father Valencia was born in San Fernando, Pampanga, Philippines. He attended Gumaca National High School there, graduating in 1993, then undertook college studies at Mount St. Aloysius College Seminary there also, graduating in 1998.
 
Father Valencia then earned master’s degrees in Divinity and in Theology at Mount St. Mary Seminary in Emmitsburg, Md. He was ordained a priest by Bishop Thomas G. Doran on May 17, 2003 at the Cathedral of St. Peter in Rockford.
 
He began his priesthood as parochial vicar at St. Margaret Mary Parish, Algonquin (June 2003 to July 2006), also teaching part time at Marian Central Catholic High School in Woodstock. He then served as parochial vicar at St. James Parish in Belvidere (July 2006 to June 2007), then as administrator of St. John the Baptist Parish in Somonauk (June 2007 to July 2008). He was pastor of St. Joseph and St. Mary parishes in Freeport (July 2008 to June 2009), serving also as assistant principal at Aquin Central Catholic High School there. Father Valencia was pastor at St. Monica Parish in Carpentersville (June 2009 to September 2010).
 
He then served as parochial vicar at St. Rita Parish in Rockford (September 2010 to July 2013) and as chaplain for the St. Rita Knights of Columbus (September 2010 to September 2013). He served as parochial vicar at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish in Crystal Lake (July 2013 to July 2014). After a few months’ leave, Father Valencia served as parochial vicar at St. Katharine Drexel Parish in Sugar Grove (November 2014 to June 2015), then at Holy Cross Parish in Batavia (June 2015 to June 2016) and as chaplain of KC Council 2191.
 
Father Valencia was parochial vicar at St. Peter Parish in Geneva (June 2016 to June 2018). He was named administrator at his Virgil and Maple Park parishes in June 2018 until his appointment as their pastor.
