Delayed Confirmations Resuming in Rockford Diocese
June 18, 2020
DIOCESE—Confirmations that have been delayed since March are resuming throughout the Rockford Diocese, but with restrictions for health and safety.

Individuals who would have received confirmation on the Vigil of Easter are among the first to be rescheduled. Some have already been held.

The decision made at the diocese allows all pastors and parish administrators, after submitting their written request to the bishop, to be given the faculty to confirm those who were scheduled to be confirmed at the Easter Vigil on April 11.

Additionally, those who were scheduled to be confirmed at other spring ceremonies with Bishop David Malloy prior to July 1 may also be confirmed by pastors and parochial administrators who have received the faculty from the bishop.

Such requests must be made in writing so that proper delegation may be given and the sacrament may be conferred validly.

In order to validly confirm any baptized Catholics who were not scheduled to be confirmed in either of those instances, faculties must be requested from the bishop.

Confirmation may take place on any day of the week.

Confirmation is not to take place during Mass to limit the exposure of those attending.

Everyone attending must wear masks.

Questions may be directed to parish pastors and parochial administrators.
