Father Perfecto Vasquez Dies Oct. 5 in Chicago

CHICAGO—Father Perfecto Vasquez died at Loyola Hospital here Oct. 5, 2020, after a long illness. He was 73.
 
Father was born on Sept. 6, 1947, in Binan, Laguna, in the Philippines to Perfecto M. Vasquez, Sr., and Paz Lim-Aco. 
 
He attended Ateneo De Manila University in Quezon City, Philippines, where he received a bachelor of science degree in behavioral sciences and a master of science degree in urban transportation. 
 
He later attended Catholic Theological Union in Chicago, where he received a master’s degree in divinity and a bachelor of arts degree in philosophy. 
 
Father Vasquez was ordained by Bishop Thomas G. Doran at the Cathedral of St. Peter in Rockford on May 16, 1998. His first assignment was as parochial vicar at St. Thomas More Parish, Elgin and spiritual advisor for St. Edward Central Catholic High School (1998-2000). 
 
He then was assigned as administrator at St. Joseph Parish, Elgin; and then was assigned as parochial vicar at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, Crystal Lake (2000-2004). In 2001 he was assigned as diocesan director of Filipino Ministry (2001-2019). 
 
In 2004 Father Vasquez was assigned as parochial vicar at St. Margaret Mary Parish, Algonquin (2005-2006). He then served as administrator at St. James Parish, Lee (2006-2008). 
 
He was assigned as pastor at SS. Peter and Paul Parish, Virgil (2008-2018). In 2014 Father was assigned as administrator at St. Mary Parish, Maple Park and later as pastor (2014-2018). He was then assigned as parish priest consultor in 2015. 
 
Father Vasquez retired from active ministry on June 18, 2018. 
 
Father Vasquez was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Dr. Amelia V. Castelltort, Rebecca Vasquez, Angela Vasquez, and Rosalie Vasquez. 
 
He is survived by siblings, Miguelita V. Amigleo, Vicente Vasquez, Teresita Lim-Aco, sons Vincent (Janella) Vasquez, Michael (Mary Anne) Vasquez, grandchildren Fulton, Bennett, Will and Xander Vasquez and several nieces and nephews. 
 
His funeral Mass was celebrated Oct. 12, 2020, at St. Thomas More Church in Elgin.
