ROCKFORD—Scouts from across the diocese were honored Feb. 8 at the Cathedral of St. Peter by Bishop David Malloy.

The Scout Sunday Mass recognized Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, American Heritage Girls and adult scout leaders for their service and dedication.

Among the awards presented by Bishop Malloy were the Spirit Alive, Parvuli Dei, Ad Altare Dei, Marian, Pope Pius XII, Pillars of Faith and the International Awareness Award. Several adult scout leaders received the St. George Award.

Diocesan scout chaplain, Father Matthew McMorrow encouraged the scouts gathered to become more aware of the relationship between scouting and their Catholic faith.

“Scouting is about developing your potential gifts and talents. As Catholics, we know that out talents are not meant for our own personal gain, but  (are) to be developed, given, and shared. Christian charity calls upon you to give what you have received,” he said.

A reception followed the Mass and awards presentation.
