Author to Lead Retreat in Des Moines
January 15, 2016

DES MOINES, Iowa—Immaculèe Ilibagiza, a Rwandan genocide survivor and New York Times best-selling author is scheduled to speak at a retreat at Holy Trinity Parish, here, Feb. 12 and 13.

She is the author of “Left to Tell: Discovering God Amidst the Rwandan Genocide.”

In 1994, members of the Hutu tribe in Rwanda took up arms against the Tutsi tribe.  In only 100 days, they slaughtered more than 800,000 Tutsis using only spears, clubs and machetes.  It was genocide, and few Tutsis survived.

Immaculèe Ilibagiza was one of the few.

“Immaculèe’s testimony is an incredible one of love, forgiveness, faith and hope,” said Anne Spina, the Holy Trinity parishioner who recruited Ilibagiza for a “Weekend of Healing and Hope” retreat in Des Moines.

Ilibagiza is regarded as one of the world’s leading speakers on peace, faith and forgiveness.

Also taking part will be Father Ubald Rugirangoa, a Rwandan priest graced with a  gift of healing.

Cost to attend is $57 for one ticket or $95 for two.
