Pray for Priests
Loves Park Parish Revives 40 Hours
July 21, 2016

LOVES PARK—St. Bridget Parish, here, is adapting a Catholic tradition — more than 500 years old — to pray for priests of the Rockford Diocese.

Called Quarant Ore or Forty Hours, it is continuous adoration of the Blessed Sacrament for a 40-hour period.

Forty Hours organizers encourage other individuals and parishes in the diocese to join them in the devotion.

St. Bridget will begin its devotion after a 5:30 p.m. Mass on Aug. 4, the feast of St. John Vianney, patron saint of priests.

From 6 p.m. Aug. 4 until 10 a.m. Aug. 6, anyone may  pray for priests, not only at St. Bridget, but at any adoration chapel in the diocese.

The homebound can  also participate in prayer and may want to log in to see live streaming adoration from Marytown, the National Shrine of St. Maximillion Kolbe, at https://marytown.com/?s=livestream.

Participants who sign up for a holy hour on the diocesan website will receive a reminder email 24 hours before their appointed time.

When signing up, remember most adoration chapels are closed during the night so, unless you have a key or code, sign up for a daytime hour.

Also on the website, there are  prayers for priests and a list of all the priests in the Rockford Diocese.
