Triduum Ends on Easter Sunday
April 8, 2021
DIOCESE—Bishop David Malloy celebrated several Masses on Easter Sunday to end the Triduum, the holiest  three days of the Liturgical Year.

One was a pre-recorded Mass from his chapel (see photo, right), a practice he began a little more than a year ago when COVID-19 restriction began limiting Mass attendance.

The dispensation for personal Mass attendance that he issued at that time remains in effect for those who still  cannot attend Masses in person due to health concerns.

At the same time Easter Mass from his chapel went live online, he also celebrated an in-person Mass for prisoners at the Winnebago County Jail in Rockford, a tradition he began during his first year in the Rockford Diocese.

The bishop also celebrated the 6:30 a.m. Easter Mass, broadcast on WREX Channel 13 and various cable stations.

He began the Easter Triduum with the annual Chrism Mass on Holy Thursday.

He also presided over a Good Friday liturgy at the Cathedral of St. Peter in Rockford (see page 3), and participated via video in the annual Aurora multi-parish Stations of the Cross that day.

The Aurora stations, usually drawing thousands to an outdoor procession through the city, was also pre-recorded this year.
