Events Coming to Recall 9-11
August 18, 2022
SHANNON—The annual Blue Mass for the protection of firefighters, law enforcement and first responders will be held on Sept. 11, 7 p.m. at St. Wendelin Church, 18 Linn St., Shannon.

The Mass, in remembrance of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks in New York and Washington D.C., has been held at the parish since Sept. 11, 2002. Father Michael Bolger, pastor, will celebrate the Mass, welcoming participation from Chaplain Ellis Boughton of the Shannon Fire Department. Fourth degree Knights of
Columbus will serve as honor guards.

As in past years, the event begins with a procession at 6:30 p.m. that starts at the Shannon Fire Station flag pole, proceeding two blocks down Hwy. 72 and up Linn Street to the church for the Mass. All are welcome.

In addition: The St. Wendelin Knights of Columbus Council #12841 are sponsoring 9-11 floats at the end of the Shannon Labor Day Parade on Sept. 5, which starts at 10 a.m. And on Sept. 10, the 9-11 floats will be pulled at the end of the Lena Fall Festival Parade starting at 12 noon in Lena.

First responders will march with the floats, which feature a “Cross of Ground Zero” and other items recalling the sacrifices made during and after the attacks in 2001.
