ROCKFORD—All Saints Catholic Academy and the Cathedral of St. Peter teamed up in late January and early February to collect diapers, wipes and more to benefit the clients of St. Elizabeth Catholic Community Center.
The academy collected its donations the week of Feb. 5-9, calling it a “Baby Love” Diaper Drive. The classes played an original game called “Diaper Dash” where students stacked their diaper donations in front of other classroom doors. The class with the fewest packs of diapers was declared the winner.
Additionally, a baby shower with games and treats was held, and during computer classes students created diaper-themed posters to hang around the school. A giant wall collage of students’ and staff members’ baby pictures was created as well. Several students volunteered to make tied blankets and decorate onesies to donate.
Perhaps the most effective activity for diaper donations happened at the end of the week when the student council organized an out-of-uniform day where, for $1, students could dress in colors to support their favorite Super Bowl team.
In total, the academy collected 20 cases of diapers, 75 packages of diapers, 150 packs of baby wipes, 20 tubes of Desitin, and a package of Boogie saline nose wipes.
The academy’s “Baby Bank” raised $114 for St. Elizabeth Center.
